status change event

Terms from Artificial Intelligence: humans at the heart of algorithms

A status change event is an event that is registered when some sensor or digital value changes. For example, a change in the temeprature in a central heating systems, a finger movement in a user interface, or a share price .on a stock exchange. The event may be used to trigger an action in a software agent or rase a notification for a user. Discrete changes in status, such as an in/out indicator on an office door may have an idetifiable event that causes the change, and thus this can be monitored. However sometime other means such as periodic polling are necessary. For continuous values often very small changes are ignored and the status change event only raised wen the change exceeds some threshold.
